J.Geil is a photographer with an eye, guts and a work ethic. He is able to take a mundane assignment and make it sparkle, shoot photo stories, knock down vivid spot news and bring back tasteful but breathtaking emotional shots when needed. He combines real dedication to visual expression with highly professional practices on filing and working with editors and reporters. And, he hustles.

-Kakie Urch, Assistant Managing Editor, The Desert Sun

As a journalist, it’s nice when people understand both sides of the desk. I always enjoyed his positive attitude and burgeoning talent in photojournalism. At the time I left (The Cincinnati Post), one of my recommendations was to try and hire J.Geil. Eventually, it happened and I’m sure the paper was better for it.

-Evan Eile, Photo Editor, USA Today

“J.Geil’s talent is evident in viewing the images he produces, but his passion for photography, incredible work ethic and strong character are what sets him apart from others in his field. I had the privilege of working with him at The Cincinnati Post and witnessed him apply that same work ethic and energy to whatever task he was presented with — be it shooting, page design or photo editing and color correction. He’s a throwback — a hard worker with a superior photographic eye.”

-Mike Nyerges, Graphics Editor, The Cincinnati Enquirer

I enjoyed having Jason on staff and found him to be a good worker and an enthusiastic contributor to our department. One of his strengths is his ability to take direction and suggestions. I liked the fact that he was not ego-driven, but rather used his experience here as a time to grow as a journalist.

-Scott Minister, Art Director, The Columbus Dispatch

Jason Geil is, simply put, extraordinary. Like many students, Jason did something that no other student had done in my more than 30 years in the University of Cincinnati’s McMicken College of Arts & Sciences. He not only worked with the student media in developing his talents, Jason independently pursued and got two full time newspaper internships at The Columbus Dispatch and The Cincinnati Post. Though these were very competitive internships; Jason, not yet a journalism major, succeeded in beating out hundreds of other candidates from around the country. Jason got the internships because he is mature, dedicated, disciplined, and very, very good at what he does.

-Jon Hughes, Journalism Program Director, University of Cincinnati

Jason Geil defies true definition. He is a sponge who wants to soak up all the knowledge around him to make him a better photographer. He is a restless spirit who is never satisfied with today and is always reaching for tomorrow. Only one other person has passed through our doors with such critical yet discriminating eyes.

-Rosalind Florez, Student Media Advisor (1997-2000), University of Cincinnati
